Une pistole, ancienne piece de monnaie aussi connue par le nom 'Louis d'Or' en français, 'escudo' en espagnol et 'doubloonÈ en anglais.

The legend:
Legend has it that in 1621 a boat beached at the mouth of a fresh water river. A sailor, wanting a drink of the water unfortunately dropped a silver goblet overboard and said "There goes three (trois) pistoles". A pistole was a gold coin, also known as a "Louis d'Or" (Golden Louis for King Louis XIII) in French and equivalent in value to the Spanish double escudo, commonly called a doubloon in English.
